SUMMARY
The Senior Project Finance Manager position is responsible for the economic analysis of greenfield and M&A projects, including preparing pricing for power purchase agreements and build-transfer agreements. This position reports to the Head of Project Finance, or another management personnel that the President of the Company may designate. This position reports to the Irvine, CA office. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. This position is expected to travel up to 10% of the time.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position
• Lead economic evaluation of projects in development (PPA RFPs, BTAs) and M&A opportunities to inform bids presented to prospective counterparties; support risk assessment to be presented to internal Investment Committee to inform business decisions
• Create and maintain complex project finance models for internal and external parties to evaluate renewable energy projects during various stages of development, construction, and operation on an individual and portfolio basis
• Specifically, synthesize and model terms of construction loan, tax equity bridge loan, and sponsor equity with back-leverage loan in time and yield-based partnership flip structures
• Review project documentation and third-party reports, including PPAs, financing term sheets and agreements, IE reports, etc. and accurately integrate assumptions into financial models
• Independently develop and run sensitivities in models and quantify resultant impact on sponsor IRR and margin
• Create marketing materials for fundraising, including teasers, CIMs, and manage data rooms
• Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced Excel skills, including using dynamic arrays and nested formulas, creating dynamic charts to visualize analysis, creating VBA macros to automate complex processes and enhance data analysis
• Minimum 3 years of project finance, corporate finance, or investment banking experience in renewable energy or similar industry
• Deep familiarity with project finance structures, including partnership flips, construction financing, and back-leverage; familiarity with sale-leasebacks and inverted leases a plus
• Deep knowledge of partnership accounting concepts, including partnership tax issues, capital account balances, basis, deficit restoration obligation, suspended losses, re-allocation, 731(a) gain, etc.
• Experience creating marketing materials, including teasers and CIMs, and managing data rooms
• Willingness to travel, up to 10% of the time
• Demonstrated ability to bring closure to complex and high value business transactions under tight timeframes; investment banking experience a plus
