Terms of
Employment:
• 187 days per year.
• This position is a one-year internship for pre-

service teacher-candidates to participate in a

paid internship with an experienced teacher

while completing a Bachelor’s degree through

one of San Antonio ISD’s University Partners

(UTSA, OLLU, UIW, Texas State University, or

Texas A&M-SA). The internship begins the first

day of the Fall (August) and Spring (January).

Position Summary

The internship gives clinical teachers the opportunity to learn and grow as a teacher under the tutelage of an
experienced Cooperating Teacher.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Improve teaching through observation and dialogue with an experienced teacher to develop a skill set
with a variety of methods, i.e., coaching, model teaching, monitoring, data focused dialogue.

2. Assist in the design, coordination, fidelity of implementation and evaluation of the campus instructional
program.

3. Improve student achievement through the application of effective classroom practices and research
based instructional strategies.

4. Assist in the review, revision, and implementation of the district curriculum.
5. Analyze formative and summative data to provide targeted instruction based on students’ individual

needs.
6. Interpret and Implement the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
7. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected

for this position.

Minimum Requirements
• Must be an undergraduate student in their final year of completing a bachelor’s degree.
• Must be pursuing a teaching certification in EC-6.
• Must obtain an educational aide certificate issued by the State Board of Education.
• Must be eligible to complete Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and

level assigned at the end of the residency.
• Two semesters of field experience coursework at one of our University Partner (UTSA, OLLU, Texas State

University, Texas A&M-SA).
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee

(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Understand and implement the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
• Broad-based knowledge and training in research-based teaching and learning strategies.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate teaching and learning practices.
• Knowledge of all special populations represented in the district and the unique needs of these learners

along with an understanding of differentiated instruction and culturally relevant pedagogy.
• Knowledge and skills in the use of technology as an instructional tool.
• Demonstrated skills in organization, leadership, communication, problem-solving, facilitation,

collaboration, research, and team building.
• Ability to maintain effective communication and working relationships with campus staff.
• Ability to effectively provide professional development to adult learners.

Working Conditions

Work Environment:
• Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and

equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
• Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional

exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.

Physical Demands/Requirements:
• Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting,

standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing,
speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
