Job Description:

As the primary resource and leader for Petco's Positive Dog Training program, the Petco Attendant has to educate and engage all partners involved in the training process.

Your position as a dog trainer requires you to implement Petco's Positive Dog Training curriculum, a humane approach to training that follows specific policies and methodologies. Your role will also involve promoting teamwork and communication between the pet parents and their furry companions. Your competence in the training process will come from prioritizing the Health & Wellness of the dogs, instilling a positive outlook in pet parents, and creating a safe and enjoyable training environment.

Position Responsibilities:

• With the Petco Positive Dog Training Program, pet parents can expect to see real results quickly and easily, without having to resort to harsh or inhumane training practices.
• Prioritize the safety of all individuals, including pets, pet owners, and Petco employees, by maintaining a safe training environment.
• It is imperative to follow ethical rules when interacting with dogs, their owners, and the Pet Care Center's collaborators to guarantee their satisfaction and trust.
• Perform the duties and obligations listed in the Dog Training Instructor Program (DTIP) with self-possession.
• Before designing any training program, it's essential to understand your dog's behavior and needs. This includes knowing their breed, personality, and any existing behavioral problems you may want to combat.
• Form interdepartmental partnerships with Pet Care Center colleagues to enhance relationships with the community and strengthen the dog training business.
• Coach in a manner that inspires and motivates with the use of exceptional listening skills to encourage positive results in dog training.
• Effective presentations clearly articulate the message and provide specific direction for the audience.
• Stay up-to-date with the newest products and services and interact with customers to explain their distinctive features and benefits.
• The completion deadline for Petco's Positive Canine Training Instructor Program and its related orientation should be strictly followed.
• The task of creating and maintaining dog training schedules, while guaranteeing compliance with established standards, falls under your purview.
• Keeping the Dog Training area clean and equipment well-maintained is a crucial part of adhering to the established policies and guidelines.

Other Essential Duties:
• Present superior and obliging service to all Petco visitors by determining their needs and suggesting dog training products based on extensive proficiency.
• Foster and promote the adoption of safety and loss prevention practices.

Basic Qualifications:
• Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, ideally a GED.
• Prospective employees must demonstrate their commitment to Petco's Positive Dog Training Instructor Program by completing it on schedule.
• Bringing a keen ability to capture the attention of listeners, ensuring messages are delivered clearly and meaningfully.
• Apt in handling technology and adept in identifying and solving technical issues.
• Capability in navigating computers and conducting internet-based searches.

Preferred Qualifications:
• CPDT-KA or KPA-CTP certifications are highly valued, with preference given to those obtained through the Karen Pryor Academy.
• Previous experience instructing positive reinforcement dog training methods in group or classroom settings would be advantageous for any applicant applying for this position.

Supervisory Responsibility:
• None

Work Environment:

Being able to lift up to 50 pounds is crucial, and material handling equipment should be utilized for 2000 pounds.
