The Senior Energy Engineer position will reside in our Asset Management Division, which focuses on facility consulting / capital planning including life cycle condition assessments, energy consulting, commissioning/retro-commissioning, code compliance, and maintenance/operations consulting for multifamily, institutional, government, and commercial clients.

This Senior Energy Engineer will primarily be responsible for supporting our energy and retro-commissioning services business which includes performing ASHRAE Level I, II and III Energy Audits, performing diagnostic on Building Energy Management Systems, developing utility allowance schedules, energy benchmarking, carbon benchmarking, developing strategies for helping clients go Net-zero as well providing sustainability consulting under the realm of ESG reporting for non-government clients. The ideal candidate would not only be able to diagnose the opportunities for energy and water savings in the buildings but also be able to develop calculators to quantify the savings from addressing them. In addition to traditional energy and retro commissioning services, the energy engineer will be expected to support the department by performing architectural and engineering condition assessments on residential as well as commercial and government facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned in conformance with state and federal regulations.

Core Functions
• Strong understanding of commercial mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment including building control and automation systems.
• Strong understanding of building pneumatic system, ability to identify and quantify the losses with backup calculations.
• Strong understanding of steam distribution systems, ability to identify and quantify the losses with backup calculations.
• Conduct energy audits (ASHRAE level I, II, III).
• Perform utility allowance studies, Statement of Energy Performance, and other benchmarking calculations for a mix of multifamily and commercial properties.
• Perform Energy Modeling using TREAT / eQUEST / DesignBuilder / Wrightsoft / RemRate / Trane Trace, etc.
• Familiarity or experience with; Green Physical Needs Assessments (GPNA), and HUD Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) projects is a plus.
• Prepare written reports that accurately describe findings (ASTM standards).
• The ability to create/perform: commissioning plans, functional performance tests, pre-functional checklist for new and existing construction; preferred but not required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a variety of audience including both technical and non-technical.
• Ability to lead and independently solve problems. Collaborate with peers to improve the execution or our services.

• Enhance professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying new and existing legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on necessary action.
• Possess the ability to use and skillfully operate a computer is essential to this position.
• Possess the ability to use and skillfully operate an electronic tablet efficiently in the field for live data collection is essential to this position.
• Successfully work from remote location.
• Climb ladders (including vertical ladders up multiple stories) and/or steep attached stairs to a roof (for each building assessed, at least once per on-site assessment)
• Have the ability to travel, on average, approximately 40% of time to client sites across the U.S. via plane and driving as determined based on the project location.
