Duties

The CDC utilizes Direct/Expedited Hire Authorities to fill vacancies in a variety of occupations. This vacancy is a REPOSITORY of applications. Duties and responsibilities vary and may increase according to the grade level of the position. Applications may be periodically referred to hiring managers both during the open period and after the closing date. Because of the large number of applications anticipated, applicants' status will not be updated.

This public notice will be used to fill the positions listed below at multiple grade levels and locations.

Requirements

Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ:

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.

or
• Combination of education and experience: at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualifications:
• GS-7:
• At least 1 year of graduate-level education OR
• Superior academic achievement (See Education section) OR
• Data Scientist: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience conducting data analysis and designs complex algorithms using artificial intelligence (e.g., machine learning) methods; and assisting in data collection analysis, and retention requirements based on the surveillance data collected OR
• Informatics: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience assisting with gathering and evaluating data to develop public health information systems OR
• A combination of education & experience
• GS-9:
• At least 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR
• Data Scientist: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience conducting data analysis and designing algorithms using artificial intelligence (e.g., machine learning) methods; providing on-going tracking and monitoring of performance of decision systems and statistical models; and assisting in preparing comprehensive reports that include discussion of substantive issues related to data science methodology for public health surveillance OR
• Informatics: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience assisting with analyzing data sets/information using informatics, systems, and a variety of reporting tools to improve public health; and assisting with gathering and/or interpreting quantified information on scientific and public health issues and programs OR
• A combination of education & experience
• GS-11:
• At least 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
• Data Scientist: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience assisting in the implementation of data collection systems; producing and documenting analytic data files; and/or conducting basic statistical analyses of population, clinical, health, or administrative data OR
• Informatics: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience analyzing data sets/information using informatics, systems, and a variety of reporting tools to improve public health; and gathering and/or interpreting quantified information on scientific and public health issues and programs OR
• A combination of education & experience
• GS-12:
• Data Scientist: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience designing, conducting, and documenting statistical analyses of population, health, or administrative data related to health topics for publication OR
• Informatics: At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, to include analyzing complex data sets/inform
