REPORTS TO: Director of K-12 Instruction and Professional Learning JOB SUMMARY:
The Instructional Coach is a critical member of the district and school leadership teams, working closely with the principal and teachers to drive significant improvements in student achievement. The coach promotes research-based best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment by providing job-embedded professional development, modeling effective instructional strategies, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Through a collaborative coaching cycle, the coach empowers teachers to refine their practice, expand their pedagogical skills, and create rigorous, engaging learning experiences for all students. With a strong foundation in pedagogy, content knowledge, and interpersonal skills, the Instructional Coach plays a vital role in building teacher capacity and ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education that prepares them for success.
JOB GOALS:
• To improve student achievement in literacy, math, and other content areas by enhancing the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction.
• Build teacher capacity in delivering rigorous, standards-aligned, data-driven instruction that meets the needs of all learners.
• To promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and shared accountability among teachers and staff.
• Facilitate job-embedded professional learning and foster reflective practice so that educators are consistently striving to refine their skills and increase their impact on student learning.
• To support the successful implementation of school and district initiatives related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development.
• Serve as a liaison between the school and central office, ensuring that teachers have the knowledge, resources, and support needed to put key priorities into practice.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with minimum of 5 years of successful K-12 teaching experience
• Master's degree in education, reading, or related field preferred
• Deep knowledge of content, pedagogy, and assessment
• Expertise in research-based literacy and/or math instruction
• Experience in designing and delivering professional development for adult learners
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to build trusting relationships and work effectively with teachers, administrators, and families
• Commitment to ensuring equitable opportunities and outcomes for all students
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):
• Collaborate with the principal and leadership team to develop and implement the school and district improvement plan, with a focus on literacy and math instruction.
• Provide individualized coaching and support to teachers through regular observation, feedback, co-planning, modeling, and co-teaching.
• Facilitate grade-level and content-area professional learning communities to analyze data, plan instruction, and share effective practices.
• Assist teachers in understanding and implementing curriculum standards, research-based instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
• Model high-quality, differentiated lessons that engage all students in rigorous content.
• Support the effective use of instructional technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
• Promote a positive, collaborative, and reflective school culture focused on ensuring success for all students.
• Maintain coaching log and data to measure impact on teacher practice and student outcomes.
• Participate in district-level coaches' meetings and professional development.
