• ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for planning and directing the financial operations of the hospital including accounting, budget, audits, accounts payable, payroll, grants, financial analytics, treasury functions, reimbursement, cost reporting, and other financial planning activities. Provides leadership for the accounting department staff by developing goals/objectives, policies and procedures, providing supervision/tutelage; providing oversight in the. Directs/performs all personnel functions for Finance Department. Other primary responsibilities include the production of all internal/external financial reports of the hospital in a timely/accurate manner and disseminating appropriately for informed decision-making within the institution as well as preparation of annual operating and capital expenditure budgets.

3. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
• Perform monthly financial analysis/disseminate to management as monitoring/decision-making tools.
• Review/coordinate operational/capital budgeting processes.
• Provide tutelage to finance staff on various aspects of accounting procedures.
• Provide key management with financial reporting to enhance operational performance.
• Provide financial guidance to departmental management; report monthly within operational areas of focus.
• Perform financial analysis on an ad hoc basis as requested by CFO/senior leadership.
• Administer timely/effective month-end close processes.
• Provide financial reports to CFO.
• Review A/R aging and coordinate with Revenue Cycle to facilitate collection focus.
• Develop/coordinate financial reporting capabilities in Hospital’s EHR Financial Module and work with any third-party decision support vendor for reports.
• Oversee preparation/updating of accounting policies and procedures.
• Coordinate Medicare reimbursement strategies and reporting processes.
• Coordinate timely distribution of departmental manpower efficiency reports and review standards periodically for appropriateness.
• Assist in evaluating the adequacy of the hospital insurance coverage and in handling special /sensitive cases or problems and providing advice and guidance as necessary in preparing and analyzing risk management, insurance reports, and appropriate executive responsive actions.
• Directs and coordinates treasury management decisions/functions with financial institutions.
• Directs and participates in the preparation of the annual budgets for all departments and monitors budget performance and addresses identified variances to ensure effective cost control.
• Ensure that accurate information is provided on a timely basis and assist as needed in facilitating the efficient conduct of external audits, examinations, and related financial projects.
• Provide exemplary customer service.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial and payroll information as well as comply with HIPAA.
• Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee relations, inter-departmental objectives, and infection control policies.
• Cordially demonstrate timeliness and professionalism in appearance, communications, and actions during all interactions and with all individuals and entities.
• Solve practical problems, dealing with a variety of issues, and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
ABILITY TO USE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, MATERIALS, MACHINES: Computer, telephone, facsimile machine, copier, scanner, printer, calculator, and other standard office equipment.
Requirements:4. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field required.
• CPA preferred.
Experience:
• Five years as a senior accountant or controller in a healthcare environment required.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting, finance, reimbursement, budgeting, credit, and
• collection, and third-party reimbursement as it relates to healthcare required.
Personal Job-Related Skills / Abilities:
• Must be committed to quality and patient safety at all times.
• Excellent command / highly proficient in spoken and written English.
• Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office and in particular Excel, information security, payroll systems/processes, and email.
• Must be effective at adjusting to change, prioritizing duties, handling stress, and effectively communicating face-to-face and/or over the telephone.
• Must be able to work independently, flexibly, and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
