Teaching Residency: Multiple 10-week residencies are available

Instructional Schedule: 2 – 3 days per week; 4- 7 hours per day
Instructional Rate: $50.80/hour
Position Overview:
P.S. ARTS Teaching Artists are equal parts professional artists and professional educators. Teaching Artists are responsible for delivering high-quality, authentic, and engaging curriculum, that is inclusive, creative, and aspirational. This position provides artists the opportunity to utilize their expertise and/or develop skills in areas including in-person instruction, live and pre-recorded online instruction, Arts integration, and delivery of community programs. As we move into a new era of education, we look to artists who will take the opportunity and challenge of designing new ways to deliver arts education.

Teaching Artists selected for this residency will be required to participate in and attend P.S. ARTS’ Training Intensive. Training sessions will be both in-person and over Zoom, which will include asynchronous completion of P.S. ARTS’ online coursework for a total of 25 hours prior to the first day of instruction. The training will provide background on P.S. ARTS’ methodology and curriculum overview, creating a positive classroom culture, Universal Design for Learning, Social Emotional Learning, and Equity and Belonging.
Teaching Artists’ primary responsibilities include the following:
Develop and/or facilitate sequential standards-based, differentiated curricula in the arts;
Prep, set up, and clean-up of lessons, classrooms or carts;
Documentation of teaching practice;
Maintain a supply budget(s);
Represent P.S. ARTS among school and community stakeholders;
Attendance and participation at trainings and workshops;
Demonstrated application of professional development into teaching practice;
Respond to emails and other communication promptly.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated experience of in-school (K-5th) teaching and classroom management
Demonstrated experience teaching Visual Arts
Familiarity with California’s Framework for VAPA
Experience working in Title I schools and surrounding communities preferred
Fluency in Spanish preferred
Working Conditions:
Teaching Artists are required to maintain a safe and clean classroom environment – physical or virtual, that promotes learning, creativity, and equity.
Teaching Artist Trainees may routinely:
Lift, push, or carry supplies, equipment, instruments, or classroom furniture up to 40lbs.
Bend, twist, reach, stand and/or sit for long periods.
View LCD screens for long periods of time.
Work with video equipment and a comfort with recording and/or being recorded.
Requirements:
Completion and clearance of a Background Check, Live Scan, and TB Test result.
COVID-19 vaccination and submission of documented proof.
