Within the framework of the New Community Corporation’s Early Learning Centers’ Program’s purpose and philosophy, the Abbott Teacher is responsible for providing age-appropriate educational programming daily to the assigned classrooms and for providing a teaching model. Tied into these functions is the responsibility of observing the children and contributing to their evaluation.
Essential Responsibilities
• Working within the structure of the New Community Corporation and the Newark School District to carry out the functions, policies and practices as established by the governing boards.
• Create lesson plans in line with required curriculum and Center objectives.
• Maintaining supportive and consistent team teaching between self and Teacher Assistants to ensure quality educational programming on a daily basis.
• Keeping the governing boards informed of any major educational problems affecting the classroom either internally or externally imposed.
• Maintaining supportive working relationships with parent/guardians to enhance a warm exchange between program personnel and parents/guardians.
• Planning for smooth transitions of children’s entrance and withdrawal from center classrooms.
• Keeping educational equipment and materials accessible and in good condition so as to encourage maximum use for teaching.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field
• Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Methodology for three and four year old children.
• State of New Jersey P-3 Standard Certification.
• Ability to work independently
• Possess skills, attributes, and characteristics conducive to and suitable for dealing with children.
• Proficiency in early childhood development
• Ability to initiate own continuing learning program to further personal understanding of the development of young children
