Our program places strong emphasis on provision of excellent clinical care, establishing new horizons in minimally invasive surgery, education of residents and medical students in all aspects of surgery, and high-level surgical research.Our program trains and prepares some of the finest young surgeons in the country for the rigors of academic or private practice as well as subsequent fellowship training.
Our general surgery residency program's integrated and affiliated training sites include rotations in surgical oncology, cardiothoracic, vascular, gastrointestinal, colorectal, hepatobiliary, general surgery, surgical critical care, pediatric surgery, emergency general surgery, and trauma/acute care surgery. UC Irvine's faculty and volunteer faculty, as well as that of our affiliate institutions, are committed to teaching and provide residents with a variety of resources and opportunities to engage their surgical knowledge. Surgical residents perform clinical rotations at our University Medical Center, the Veteran's Affairs - Long Beach Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Mission Hospital and Children's Hospital of Orange County.
Under the supervision of the Education Manager, this position will serve as the primary resource for surgery residents/residency program. Incumbent will assist the Program Director of Surgery in the management and direction of the training program. Major responsibilities include coordination of the educational activities of the program, assisting incoming and current residents, and maintaining academic curriculum. Assures program compliance with regulatory standards and maintains essential documents required for program viability. Support of program includes coordinating all administrative aspects of the General Surgery Residency Office (e.g. schedules, preparation of written verifications of training, maintenance of call and rotation schedules and New Innovations residency management suite, recruiting process of prospective applicants, completion of required surveys, ACGME and GME data). Incumbent functions as a liaison between residents, Education Division Manager, Program Director, Chair, Department Administrator, Graduate Medical Education Office, various university departments, and affiliated hospital coordinators.
Ability to coordinate material from a variety of sources and synthesize data into a logical format for presentation.
~ Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with all levels of campus and hospital administration, faculty, staff, patients, and with the public. Organization to schedule and coordinate appointments, interviews, and rotation schedules, and other event planning.
~ Skill to initiate, follow-up, and revise projects on an ongoing basis.
~ Working knowledge of computer systems and typing ability.
~ Organizational skills to establish effective workload priorities to facilitate multiple programmatic functions including: clinical, educational, and research.
~ Ability to compose and prepare narratives, graphs, and tables quickly, accurately and grammatically using word processing software.
~ 2 years of relevant work experience with BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience.
