EnterpriseWorks is an award-winning incubator at the Research Park that focuses on science and research-based start-up companies commercializing technology from the University of Illinois. There is a multifaceted team of professionals and interns dedicated to helping startups and corporations thrive in the Research Park. Previous interns have gone on to work at companies including but not limited to: Google, Facebook, IBM, PepsiCo, Goldman Sachs, Denodo, Allstate, Yelp, Solstice, and Surface 51.

About the Role

Join the Research Park team for an opportunity to manage interpersonal relationships, develop your decision-making skills, and work with diverse people in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment! The Outreach Intern will be part of the University of Illinois Research Park and EnterpriseWorks team to support the growth of the workforce in the Research Park.

The position will directly assist the Talent Manager’s efforts with a wide range of projects related to planning and community engagement, outreach, event planning, talent acquisition strategy and the development of new initiatives and programs that retain and grow the workforce in the Research Park.

Job Description

As an Outreach Intern, you will be responsible for various internal and external projects for Research Park and EnterpriseWorks.

One of the main responsibilities will be managing and organizing the entire outreach process for the internal Research Park Intern Team, which includes organizing and promoting outreach events, developing and distributing promotional materials, coordinating social media campaigns, engaging with community partners, and representing Research Park at various community and campus events. Other duties include but are not limited to maintaining the Research Park Job Board, representing the Research Park and its 120+ companies at multiple Career Fairs and campus recruiting events, updating the internal Research Park Intern Onboarding Manual and Company Recruitment Guide, and assisting in running Research Park events. The Outreach Intern will also work closely with the internal Research Park Intern Team to cultivate an engaging and valuable internship experience for the semester.

In addition, Research Park interns will be responsible for assisting with event preparation and post-event cleanup as needed.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently without much oversight and have excellent communication, organization, and management skills. It is important to have interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with EnterpriseWorks staff and the student interns.

Requirements
• Must be a full-time enrolled student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign at the time of employment.
• Must be available to begin training before the end of the Fall Semester and work 5-7 hours/week with an expectation of 7 to 15 hours a week in Fall.
• While interns have the option to work up to 26 hours/week, we prioritize academics and encourage balancing work commitments with academic responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
• Previous experience in outreach or demonstrated ability to successfully manage and organize teams (this can be through a student organization or other organization)
• Strong initiative and leadership skills
• Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to work on a deadline, handle multiple projects, think creatively, and adapt quickly in fast-paced environments and team settings

Preferred Qualifications
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Proficiency in Webtools and WordPress
• Experience in event planning and coordination
• Proficiency in data analysis and documentation

Compensation

Hourly wage will be $15.00 per hour. The intern will be paid by the University of Illinois.

Pending successful performance reviews, the internship can continue through multiple semesters and there is potential to be promoted into a leadership role.

Training and onboarding will begin soon after signing an offer letter.

Training hours: Approximately 5-7 hours/week. Post on-boarding, interns are expected to maintain 7 to 15 hours weekly with flexibility based on class schedule.

Summer Hours: 37.5 hours/week
