The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD)
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Mathematics. Preference will be given to candidates in the areas of Algebra, Analysis, Topology, Number Theory, and Combinatorics, but other areas of mathematics will also be considered.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and some graduate mathematics courses. In addition to teaching, the new faculty will be expected to conduct mathematical research, participate in departmental, university, and professional service, and mentor and supervise undergraduate students.
Applicants must be committed to teaching excellence in a diverse student environment.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop independent research or pursue other scholarly interests.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mathematics by the date of appointment or shortly after.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Mathematics with specialization in Algebra, Analysis, Topology, Number Theory, Set Theory, Combinatorics, or related area of mathematics.
2. Demonstrated research potential and active research agenda in mathematics.
3. Ability and willingness to teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
