Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek
POSITION PURPOSE:
Designs high quality, professional development and training for school librarians and media assistants that increases the effectiveness of curriculum and instructional practices and improves the library experience for students. Provides applications support to school librarians and media assistants that assists staff in leveraging technology to implement an innovative instructional practice. Collaborates with Library Media Services staff in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Provides customer service and technical support for the automated library management software program. Develops educational materials and documents to ensure the effective use of library systems and software. Oversees the Library Media Services budget for new and renovated schools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
• Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;
• Knowledge of software to include library management software, Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) records system; Follett Destiny Library Manager
• Excellent customer service skills;
• Ability to establish priorities and adjust to varying needs and deadlines;
• Ability to design and deliver training to adult learners;
• Ability to communicate complex curriculum and technical information to intended audience through written, verbal and multimedia online presentations; communicates clearly and to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
• Ability to understand, manage and troubleshoot database applications;
• Ability to work well both autonomously and in teams to employ multiple approaches to solve problems to meet challenges and deadlines;
• Ability to manage time and resources to meet required deadlines and balance priorities on time and within budget;
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
• Associates degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field;
• Two years of experience in a school library setting;
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
• Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in a public school library environment;
• Experience using Follett Destiny software and other digital resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Designs and directs the delivery of professional development and training for school librarians and media assistants that is consistent with Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) goals; develops educational materials and documents to ensure school librarians and media assistants are successful in teaching efforts.
• Provides application support for Library Media Services, specifically for Follett Destiny Library Manager (the WCPSS school library management system software) and other instructional digital resources.
• Manages the Library Media Services budget for new and renovated schools; prepares PORs and other accounting records; orders all necessary equipment based off state and district standards; electronically verifies, shelves, and checks-in all books ordered and delivered, ensuring accuracy in billing, delivery contains all items ordered, and schools have all needed library supplies/books.
• Manages WCPSS compliance with EOY state reports, including the Digital Learning Media Inventory.
• Collaborates with Library Media Services team in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
• Communicates with school librarians, curriculum and instructional staff, software developers, and Technology Services personnel about updates and changes in applications for Library Media Services.
• Provides Tier 1 Customer Support to all WCPSS school librarians and related staff regarding matters related to library operations.
