Job Title: Special Education Teacher – Middle School Pull-Out Resource (POR) In-Class Resource (ICR) (Anticipated)
Reports To: Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Education
Job Purpose: To provide instructional services to students who have an IEP.
Qualifications-Required:
• NJ Teacher of the Handicapped Certification or Teacher of Students With Disabilities Certification (Standard, CEAS, CE)
• Secondary Content Certification or Middle School Endorsement
• Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS)
• Excellent classroom management
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to speak English clearly and accurately
• Ability to create and implement lesson plans that demonstrate differentiated instruction
• Ability to collaborate and cooperate with CST members
• Ability to implement and follow students' IEPs
• Ability to engage and motivate students
• Ability to appropriately involve paraprofessionals in the delivery of instruction and classroom rules
• Ability to communicate effectively with parents/guardians of students
• Ability to pass the Criminal History Review
• Ability to pass the Sexual Misconduct Child Abuse Disclosure
Qualifications-Desired:
• 2-3 years of teaching experience
• Familiarity with Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Creates and follows daily lesson plans that detail differentiated teaching strategies
• Implements best practices and strategies in classroom instruction
• Implements teaching strategies that engage and motivate students
• Works with the CST members to ensure the appropriate student services are being provided to special needs students
• Creates and maintains a classroom environment that is safe and conducive for teaching and learning
• Creates and modifies student assessments as needed
• Communicates with parents/guardians
• Establishes and enforces rules and procedures for appropriate behavior during classroom
• Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities
• Teaches personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy
• Guides and counsels students with adjustment and/or academic problems, or special academic interests
• Observes and evaluates students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
• Instructs students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and food preparation
• Uses computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement instruction
