I'm looking for an assessment edit for a series of children's short stories. They are aimed at children of around 6-10 years. The style is more traditional, classic 'fairy tale' but with some humour. It's a collection describing the somewhat interlinked adventures of three knights in a fantasy version of medieval Liechtenstein. Imagine Arthurian legends rewritten by Douglas Adams or Roald Dahl (on one of their off-days, I don't want to disappoint you, I'm sure it's not that good but that's the idea).
I'm not trying to be contemporary or follow any particular market trends, but I would like to put the stories 'out there' to as wide an audience as possible. I understand there isn't a huge demand for these types of stories at this age range. I'm looking for someone with experience of working in traditional children's publishing (preferably with a major UK publishing house) - if you have some knowledge of online publishing such as KDP that's a bonus. I'm looking for advice on what direction to take the stories in, in terms of - copy editing, sending them to agents, getting some critiques in a writing group or going back to school and work on my writing.
Initially, I'd supply the first story in the collection - it's around 5000 words. I'm working on a rough estimate of around 2 hours for the job to begin with, but there's some potential for further collaboration.
