JOB SUMMARY:
The flavor specialist will provide technical support to the Science and Technology group by analyzing the flavors of frozen and chilled culinary products, reporting the generated findings and ensuring the daily operation of the equipment in the Chemical analytical laboratory. Organizes and conducts testing of raw materials and product contents, independently and in compliance with applicable methods, protocols, SOPs and regulatory agency guidelines. Documents work and maintains study documentation and laboratory records. The Flavor Analytical Chemist would have the responsibility to grow our flavor analytical capabilities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• With minimal supervision, safely and effectively develops, modifies, and validates and monitors flavor analytical testing methodologies of raw materials and finished products according to Nestle Guidelines utilizing equipment such as gas chromatography (GC)/olfactometry, HPLC, electrochemical flavor analyzers, spectrophotometer, pH Meter and other equipment in the Laboratory.
• Ensures the calibration and maintenance of equipment (ICP).
• Builds professional/personal relationships with different teams in Nestle Food R&D centres.
• Records and monitors data as outlined in the experimental procedure, analytical method or protocol and keep accurate records of all work.
• Understands data generated, and history of methods and communicates results/methods at scientific level in written as well as oral form.
• Maintains a safe, clean and hygienic work area and applies Nestlé Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and corresponding procedures (NQMS).
• Provides assistance with organoleptic assessments of raw materials and finished flavors to understand how to correlate flavor sensory and analytical data.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):
• Master’s degree in a scientific discipline, preferably in Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field, with minimum 5 years of experience. Ph.D. is a plus.
• Proven experience in laboratory management or coordination in a scientific or research environment.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, including SOP development, equipment calibration, and inventory management.
• Dexterity with analytical methods and equipment commonly used in food science or related fields. Proven experience in running and troubleshooting GC-MS.
• Experience in flavor analysis such as GC-MS/O.
• Must be proficient in Chem-Station & Mass-Hunter.
• Good Operational knowledge of other analytical instrumentation like HPLC, FTIR, UV-VIS equipment, and data stations required.
• Demonstrated computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets, structural drawings, and databases preferably in a Windows environment
• The ability to solve extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables.
• Highly developed ability to communicate efficiently internally and externally
• Ability to travel 20%
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
A proactive independent person and is able to lead/manage/complete projects with minimal supervision. Creative and innovative with a sense of urgency and passion. There will be at least two formal meetings with the supervisor to evaluate the progress toward the goals. There is also the opportunity to work closely with other members of the team for guidance. There will be formal training sessions set up for all new comers to Nestle as well as specific courses required as an R&D employee. The supervisor will set up a training plan, and it is the responsibility of the individual to execute the plan.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
This individual does not have any direct reports but should be able to lead/mentor team members in projects that he/she is leading.
