Role

The Music and Worship Arts Director provides musical, administrative, and spiritual leadership in faithful service of the ministry and mission of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church.

Responsibilities

Direct the planning, organization, execution and evaluating of a comprehensive music ministry including choirs, vocal, and/or instrumental ensembles. This includes but is not limited to:

Develop, recruit, and rehearse an adult chancel choir providing organization and weekly communication with its members,

Conduct the adult chancel choir at each Sunday 10:45 service and be involved in the 8:30 early Sunday service and special services or programs throughout the year,

Conduct and/or develop and support volunteers for leadership of children’s choirs and any additional choirs,

Collaborate with all serving in the music programs of the church,

Arrange for and supervise additional vocalists and/or instrumentalists, volunteer or paid,

Encourage and rehearse other available talent within the congregation

Coordinate closely with pastors responsible for preaching and worship along with the Worship Ministry team to create dynamic, integrated, and inspiring worship service,

Develop and maintain music skills to engage opportunities to teach the congregation about church music (traditional and contemporary) and teach new hymns and music as appropriate,

Seek opportunities to engage congregants of all ages to share their musical talents in worship,

With pastor, plan creative worship through visual arts or drama where it enhances worship,

Arrange for substitute music leader/s when absent,

Integrate music into various ministries of the church, including but not limited to Vacation Bible School, and church events,

Select, purchase, and maintain a library of music and supplies for all aspects of the music program,

Maintain the church’s annual copyright/license agreements, report used music to licensing agencies, and provide copyright information for the bulletins and livestream of worship,

Liaison with our Media Team for Worship services which are streamed and/or recorded,

Recommend an annual budget for all aspects of the music and arts program,

Provide music information and announcements for all church communications,

Participate in meetings of the Worship Ministry, with the pastor, and organist,

Serve as church liaison for outside music groups e.g. Clemson Singers or ecumenical music events,

Participate in professional organizations such as Presbyterian Association of Musicians to enhance connection with the greater church and music community,

Demonstrate pastoral concern for all persons in the music ministry and membership of the church.

Terms of Service

Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Consult with the pastor to establish guidelines for times to be present in the office to accommodate attendance at meetings, staff collegiality, rehearsal schedules, and worship services.

Personnel review to be conducted after the first three (3) months of service and thereafter by Personnel and Program Support along with pastor as supervisor.

Compensation:

Competitive salary to be negotiated, commensurate with education and relevant work experience, minimum $55,000.

Four weeks paid vacation annually with full salary.

One (1) week of Continuing Education leave annually with full salary.

Reimbursable Professional Fees, Continuing Education allowance, and mileage for church-related business.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in church music or equivalent training.

Vocal quality and experience must be at a level to lead and direct choirs.

Knowledge of adult and children’s choral music and where to purchase music.

Familiarity with technology used in worship arts.

Knowledge of hymnody and congregational singing.

Knowledge of reformed theology and practice of worship in the PC(USA).

Preferably three (3) years minimum experience in participating, planning, organizing, playing and directing church music programs.

Christian commitment and character.

Proficiency in piano playing to lead rehearsals and collaborate with organist.

Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills.
