Graduate Research Assistants for the Linguistic Justice Collaborative

Job Description:

This position will support administration and research related to the Linguistic Justice Collaborative (LJC), a grant funded group committed to advancing language and linguistic justice centered on community-based research and dissemination across the state of Georgia.

Duties as assigned will be related to sustaining the Linguistic Justice Collaborative (LJC) which includes administrative duties, communicating with community partners, maintaining the website, organizing summer literacy workshops, data collection (e.g. observations, informal interviews, managing and organizing data), data analysis (e.g. transcribing data, coding data), procuring additional funding (e.g. collaborating with faculty members on grant applications), and disseminating research (e.g. preparing proposals and manuscripts, traveling to present work at conferences, providing professional learning for local educators).

Multiple, flexible positions are available based on prospective candidates' availability and experience. Prospective GRAs will be available to work between 10 and 40 hours per week beginning May 2023 at a rate of $30/hour. The position can continue based on candidate interest and availability through summer 2024. For example, work 20 hours a week during the summer of 2023 and 5 hours a week during the academic year.

The successful candidate must be a Mercer University student with experience or interest in one or more of the following:
• education and pedagogy
• language and literacy
• place-based history and archival work
• community-based work
• research methods

Preferred qualifications include:
• experience in K-12 or community -based education
• experience with multilingual communities, language learning, or linguistics
• experience with qualitative, participatory research methods
• able to travel
• work study eligible

Pay rate is $30/hour
