Youth Sports Program Coaches

City of North Miami

The city of North Miami is looking for enthusiastic and responsible youth sports coaches to provide a fun and safe sporting experiencing for our youths. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing basic sports strategies, scheduling team practices and games, and ensuring all team members get equal playing time.

Coach an assigned group of children emphasizing skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship, and fun;

Preside over team activities including scheduled team practices and games;

Be responsible for team equipment;

Ensure equal playing time for all your players regardless of the score;

Work to establish and improve team unity and spirit;

Instructs participants in a variety of activities at a park or facility;

Assists in community-wide recreational events for all age groups;

Maintain records and assist in the preparation of periodic and special reports;

Coach, officiate or instructs in special activities as needed;

Assist in organizing and conducting competitive leagues and other group activities;

Assist with the research of purchasing equipment and supplies as directed by a supervisor;

Perform registrations and reports through the City’s ActiveNet Registration System;

Assist with facility maintenance and the upkeep and repair of facility equipment;

Perform assigned duties before and after a declared emergency;

Provide good customer service to the public;

Perform related duties as required and as directed.

Equipment Used/Job Location:

Often carries heavy equipment up and down stairs depending upon type of program activity involved;

Climbing, running, jumping and bending;

Works outdoors in varying weather conditions;

Operate a calculator;

Knowledge of Microsoft word and excel programs;

Operates emails;

Drive city vehicles to transport program participants as necessary.

To ensure success as a youth sports coach, you should have extensive experience working with youths, knowledge of basic sports strategies, and good communication skills. A top-class youth sports coach ensures all youth team members enjoy an engaging and uplifting sporting experience.

Considerable knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and techniques of recreational sports;

Considerable knowledge of community recreational sports;

Ability to carry on an activity in a broad phase of a program;

Ability to cooperate with public and private groups and agencies and the general public;

Ability to develop and maintain communication and effective relationships with co-workers and with activity participants;

Ability to develop interest and participation in community recreational activities with varied age groups;

Ability to perform basic administrative office tasks;

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple program tasks and work independently;

Ability to follow oral and written directions;

Ability to maintain facility for safety hazards and knowledge of proper use of safety practices;

Ability to perform monetary transactions; close out and balance cash register;

Ability to learn basic computer skills as well as the ActiveNet registration system and Tyler cash register system;

Ability to produce and maintain records and reports;

Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the facility and program needs and assist in special events during the year;

Ability to perform routine building maintenance – scrub, mop, sweep, move tables and chairs, clean office areas and restrooms;

Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license.
