BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of assigned administrator, support implementation of student behavior support plans; assist in both instructional and non-classroom related activities to support students’ academic and social-emotional learning; assist in developing and implementing behavior support plans.
PEP BIT/Early Childhood BIT (Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten)
A Behavior Intervention Technician working as a part of the Early Childhood Team/PEP would be responsible for working with early childhood students ages 3-6 years old in various classroom and district settings. May include work within general education classrooms, special education settings and/or district behavior specific programs for early childhood students. Responsibilities will include providing behavior intervention support, data collection and training, coaching and modeling for both families and school site staff. Will receive specialized training for the district’s Parent Empowerment Program (PEP), a program where students and families attend 2 days per week 2 hours each session to get intensive behavioral support and training in a small group setting. PEP BIT will work and teach using PEP strategies within a small classroom setting and will take data, lead class activities and model and provide coaching and training for families within the PEP Program under the supervision and support of PEP staff. PEP BIT will also support materials creation including for visual supports and PEP classroom activities. An ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of independence and flexibility and a willingness to work with students who display ongoing aggressive and inappropriate behaviors. Travel between locations throughout the day is required. Reliable transportation is necessary.
District Behavior Team BIT (Kindergarten through 8th grade)
A behavior intervention technician working as a part of the District Behavior Team will be responsible for supporting students with challenging behavior across multiple schools daily. The District Behavior Team BIT will work with school site teams to develop and implement student behavior plans. Implementation of plans will include direct work with students and modeling of strategies as well as providing feedback and training to all staff working with the student (general ed and special ed staff). BITs are responsible for ongoing data collection and behavior notes. A typical day may include driving between multiple school sites across the district to support students from kindergarten through 8th grade. BIT team members are also responsible for leading staff training with a focus on behavior strategies and plan implementation. An ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of independence and flexibility and a willingness to work with students who display ongoing aggressive and inappropriate behaviors. BITs are also responsible for creating materials and visuals that support appropriate behavior in the classroom. Students may require support in any of the school settings or district programs within the LMSV district. Reliable transportation is necessary.
Site Based BIT (Site specific support for all grade levels at that school)
A site based behavior intervention technician will be responsible for supporting students with challenging behavior at assigned site only. The site based BIT will work with the school site’s administration to determine daily activities and responsibilities and will participate as a positive team member for the purpose of enhancing and sharing knowledge and skills for the delivery of best practices. Site based BIT will assist students, both in individual and group/classroom settings, to manage their own personal behaviors in and out of the classroom. Site based BIT will establish and build rapport and meaningful relationships with students on campus and be available and able to support any child who attends that school site in need of behavioral or social emotional support though this level of support is reserved primarily for tier 2 and tier 3 level challenges. Site based BIT may also support students who have been referred to help them calm and return to the classroom setting. Site based BITs will be called in to support behavior escalations and safety needs. Site based BIT will tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the administrator or teacher, monitors and overseas student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects, confers with the staff concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs, assists with the implementation of lesson plans. Site based BIT will collect and manage student data and create visual supports and materials as needed.
