Conducts specialized, complex analyses and builds statistical models that provide actionable insights to improve health care quality, equity and safety and promote efficient service delivery. Examples of analyses performed include creating models to predict healthcare utilization patterns and high performing providers, analyzing the relationship between quality care delivery, cost, and utilization, and assessing interventions and outcomes for specific chronic disease populations across the continuum of care. To conduct the analyses, the Senior Statistician manipulates large clinical, administrative, survey and claims data sets using SAS, R, or other statistical software, is skilled in both qualitative and quantitative methods, and principles of program evaluation. This position translates program goals into testable hypotheses and collaborates with both internal and external contacts on data and analytical needs. The Senior Statistician independently provides statistical consultation and serves as a resource across Advocate Health, advising colleagues on the statistical aspects of study design, planning and executing statistical analyses using appropriate methodologies, and interpreting and presenting results. The Senior Statistician is adept in identifying causes of clinical trends and evaluates programs for clinical and financial efficacy. The position requires the ability to articulate findings to internal and external audiences, make recommendations for improvement, and track the impact of the improvement solutions. The Senior Statistician mentors other team members who are engaged in statistical analysis and provides active supervision when appropriate.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conducts quantitative analyses using sophisticated statistical methodologies, including Bayesian methods, clustering, multivariate regression, advanced modeling, and predictive analytics, and applies sampling and randomization techniques as needed.
• Conducts qualitative analyses in the context of program evaluation to understand drivers of acceptance, adoption and success in real-world implementation.
• Develops expertise with claims, clinical, and administrative data and statistically explores data for purposes of identifying insights that contribute to the understanding or improvement of the care and health of the population.
• Contributes professional consultation to internal and external groups or individuals regarding statistical theories, techniques, and methods to gather, analyze, interpret, and/or report quantified information, and mentors team members to improve statistical skills and depth of analyses.
• Collaborates with project teams to achieve study objectives, deliver results on time, and ensure the quality of deliverables.
• Creates an analysis plan for each project that includes data file specifications and statistical methods to be applied, defines derivation and validation data sets, collaborates with project teams and business owners to meet strategic objectives.
• Prepares data for analysis by organizing relevant data from multiple sources and performing quality control checks such as outlier analyses and applying appropriate methods for dealing with missing data.
• Analyzes and interprets findings to identify statistically significant and practically relevant implications, including and any statistical limitations, and clearly presents methods, models, and analyses to non-statistically advanced internal and external audiences.
• Leads content generation and provides statistical review of any manuscripts submitted for publication. Provides thought leadership in the area of population health statistical analysis and supports education throughout the system on statistical methods and interpretation.
• Considers the strategic objectives of Advocate Health while leading the application of statistical methods.
