Master Teacher and Math Coach
Philip’s Academy Charter School of Paterson (PACS), seeks an advanced professional as its Math Specialist and Master Teacher. The Math Specialist and Master Teacher is a member of the Leadership Team. The Math Specialist and Master Teacher is responsible for creating a building culture and climate inline with the Philip’s Academy mission and vision that ensures the academic and social-emotional success of students. The Math Specialist provides teachers with coaching and feedback on the implementation of their math lessons, as well as writes math curricula and implements evidence based practices. Further, at times, the Math Specialist also provides direct instruction to students.
Mission: The mission of philip’s Academy Charter school of Paterson (PACS) is, we will provide a moral and rigorous education to a diverse student body, accomplished in a hands-on, technology infused educational environment that embraces differentiated instruction and individual attention that will allow our students to attend college, while developing a commitment to global citizenship, environmental sustainability, and personal virtue.
Responsibilities
• Research and provide staff support that will improve teaching and learning – including: teaching strategies, assessment of math skills, interpretation, and use of assessment
• Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative math practices through various activities such as: individual discussions (informal and formal), coaching sessions, team teach with colleagues, demonstration lessons with pre- and post- discussion/analysis, study groups, staff meetings, and professional development
• Provides support and assistance to all classroom teachers in the full implementation of the district’s adopted math program through data analysis/interpretation.
• Provides on-site staff development to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about program components and understand the instructional design of how the program meets the standards (alignment)
• Assists teachers in building an interactive classroom
• Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all
• Participation in collaborative grade level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve the focus of instructional planning and student
• Assists grade level teams in setting goals for improved instruction and RTI
• Collaborates with the academic leadership team to review benchmarks and established data points to assess student progress towards established instructional
• Provide direct instruction to students as part of RTI, Gifted and Talented or other students/programs that arise throughout the course of the school year; the Math Specialist may be asked to teach a math section or elective as well
• Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor or School Leader

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in the assigned area.
• Hold a valid New Jersey Teacher Certificate
• Commitment to PACS philosophy and unwavering belief that all students can succeed.
• Able to work well with limited oversight and direction.
• Applicants must demonstrate cultural sensitivity, ability to communicate with parents and students, have mastery of subject matter content, hold high expectations of students and adults and possess basic understanding of adult learning theory
• Strong management skills, with the emotional intelligence to work effectively with diverse leaders and leadership teams, developing and enhancing their capabilities
• Skilled at pushing staff perspectives and approaches to always focus first on students’ needs.
• Effective problem-solving skills, with an ability to creatively solve seemingly intractable problems while inspiring staff to do the same
• Robust analytical skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to drive results
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of productivity software.
• Complete a Tuberculosis test and physical and provide a physician’s documentation of both
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.
