Job Description Summary
Pet insurance is a dynamic, rapid-growth industry. Nationwide Pet was the first U.S. pet insurer and is the dominant carrier in this industry that today protects 3.1 million pets -- under 3% of the total pet population.

As a Vice President, you’ll lead the critical functions of the Pet business – holding accountability for developing and leading our Pet Protection function and motivating leaders and their teams to achieve growth, profitability and performance targets across products, channels, and functions.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee a team providing expertise, data, and reporting on Nationwide Pet’s opportunities in animal health. Develop and execute bold strategies that balance the needs of our members and the business.
• Partner with the executive team to develop and execute short- and long-term strategies and operating plans, providing leadership, perspective, expertise, and accountability for business success.
• Manage a cross-functional team of data consultants, offering medical and scientific advice to support key business decisions.
• Direct the development of pet health data collection, retrieval, and analysis to identify opportunities for better loss management, improved pet health outcomes, increased internal efficiencies, and enhanced member experience.
• Lead strategic oversight in the development of and adherence to data-informed product design principles, pricing strategies, and underwriting criteria and processes, balancing risk with customer value and profitability targets.
• Build a data collection, retrieval and analysis capability/team and leverage data to drive business activities and KPIs.
• Build high performing, accountable teams, including hiring and developing leadership and individual talent.
• Identify critical performance drivers and manage to them with relentless focus. Communicate expectations, hold teams accountable to KPIs, and continuously improve performance to drive profitable growth.
• Own daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting on the state of the business. Deep-dive into issues and look prospectively to uncover business-driving trends, patterns and growth opportunities.
• Regularly present to senior executives regarding the status, strategy, and needs of the business.
• Collaborate with the executive leadership team to create product and channel performance expectations and develop strategies and tactics to achieve them.
• Optimize the organizational structure for successful execution, efficient operations, and high associate engagement.
• Drive organizational adoption of Lean principles to continuously improve quality, efficiency, and productivity, reducing costs, improving satisfaction, creating capacity, and increasing profit. Work collaboratively to effect improvements.
• Provide thought leadership and use design thinking to identify opportunities for improving the customer experience, creating low-effort, customer-delighting experiences that drive loyalty.
• Establish strong working relationships across the enterprise and partner successfully to fulfill on Pet’s opportunities to create value for other Nationwide businesses.
• Represent Pet in critical initiatives and key meetings with potential business partners and the industry.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business, finance, statistics or technical/engineering discipline; MBA preferred.

Experience: 15+ years of professional experience leading high performing organizations, ideally in complex and dynamic environment like insurance.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Experience working with data and proven ability to identify trends, find emerging problems and create and deliver against plans to achieve performance targets. An effective communicator, particularly with data-intensive information. A motivating leader who can guide teams to achievement, even in the face of adversity. Strong ability to operate in a matrix environment, collaborate with various stakeholders in different locales and functions effectively, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
