Position Summary
Gill St. Bernard’s School is searching for a dynamic and experienced full time Lower School Music and Middle School Band Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, experienced with developing a performance-based curriculum, committed to student-centered pedagogy, and eager to collaborate with colleagues. The successful candidate will be patient, encouraging, and flexible with students, and will model GSB’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect, and courage. The Performing Arts department seeks candidates who are enthusiastic about developing a balanced curriculum that includes music theory, instrumental technique, and ensemble performance for the Middle School, and who are passionate about instilling love and appreciation for music in the Lower School.
Responsibilities
• Teach Music classes for grades 3 and 4; teach Band classes for grades 4-8.
• Collaborate with members of the Performing Arts department to design curriculum and create innovative classroom experiences.
• Direct annual Middle School Band concert (spring) and co-direct annual concerts for grades 1-4 (fall and spring).
• Perform rotational Lower School duties such as lunch duty, recess duty, etc.
• Report grades and write comments three times a year.
• Actively participate in faculty professional development and observations, with support from Lower School administrators.
• Maintain ongoing parent communication.
• Participate in faculty, divisional, and grade-team meetings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Director.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• 3+ years of experience of teaching at the Lower School level; a keen interest in the development of learners in this age group
• Experience instructing a diverse student population
• Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
• Enthusiasm for and effective use of technology in the classroom
• Desire for ongoing professional growth and to join a community of learners
• Ability to work with students in-person or virtually, as determined by the School
