Holton-Arms School invites applications for the position of

Lower School/Middle School Chinese Teacher (3/4 time) for the 2024-2025 school year.

DESCRIPTION AND DETAILS:

Holton-Arms is seeking a passionate, experienced, student-centered Lower School/Middle School Chinese teacher . This person will teach a spiraling Chinese curriculum, provide Chinese instruction for one section each of 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and support additional duties in the Lower School (for example, sixth-grade advisory). The Lower School/Middle School Chinese teacher needs to inspire a passion for the Chinese language, create a positive learning environment that supports the well-being of students, communicate effectively with students and parents, and work collaboratively with other language teachers in the department, as well as division colleagues and administrators. The successful candidate will be prepared to commit to and promote the School’s Mission as well as the institutional priorities embodied in the School’s philosophy of Learn Well, Live Well, Lead Well and the Diversity Mission Statement. Engaging in curriculum redesign towards a more deliberate, anti-racist curriculum is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate for Lower School/Middle School Chinese Teacher should have:
• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or Chinese
• 3 to 5 years of relevant teaching experience and curriculum development
• Commitment to creating a student-centered, project-based, and competency-driven classroom
• Experience with Responsive Classroom is preferred
• Experience embedding Social and Emotional Learning, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, and Global Competencies Into their curriculum
• Passion for working with and deep understanding of Upper Elementary and Middle School students
• Proficiency with technology and digital platforms in the classroom
• Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues within and across disciplines
• Understands language learning as an integral component of global competence
• Believes language learning is something everyone can do
• Commitment to continued professional learning
