Postdoctoral Fellow - Applied Mathematics & Statistics

Johns Hopkins University, Mathematics

The Johns Hopkins University’s Department of Mathematics invites applicants for one or more
positions as Postdoctoral Fellow. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. prior to their
appointment start date, and no later than 12/31/25 and show definite promise in research and
teaching. The teaching load will be at most one course each semester, and often as little as one
course per year, depending on both funding and the needs of the department, so that
the appointee will have ample time for research. The appointment is for two years, with
possibility of renewal, depending on funding availability.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with Prof. Maggioni on problems
that include: analysis and algorithms on graphs, geometric analysis of high dimensional data
sets, dynamic data sets, high-dimensional probability and approximation theory, applications to
machine learning, applications to analysis of images, high-dimensional stochastic dynamical
systems, model reduction, control. A strong background in analysis, probability, computational
mathematics, and at least one of the areas above, is required.

Applicants are asked to submit (a) an AMS standard coversheet; (b) a vita; (c) a description of
research interests, and have at least three letters of recommendation submitted.

Additionally, the candidates should contact Prof. Maggioni via email (mauromaggionijhu@icloud.com), with a message containing "Postdoctoral Fellow" in the subject line, discussing any overlap of research interests with Prof. Maggioni.

Applications received by December 15th, 2024 will be guaranteed full consideration; early
application is advisable.

The expected salary range for this position is $62,500 to $80,000. The referenced salary range
is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The actual
compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will be based on factors
including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate – e.g.,
years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors;
geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as
reasonably determined by the University. The successful candidate will also be provided with
professional development funds. The position comes with fringe benefits which include health
insurance.
