Position Summary: The Adams-Banks administration has outlined a bold vision to reimagine the educational experience for all New York City Public School (NYCPS) students so they graduate with real-world skills and experience, a head start on postsecondary, and a strong plan to put them on a path to a rewarding career and long-term economic security.
The Office of Student Pathways, under the leadership of the Chief of Student Pathways, is tasked with driving towards Chancellor Banks' bold vision to reimagine the student experience through career-connected learning so that by 2030:
• 100% of NYCPS students will enter high school with skills in financial literacy and computational thinking and having explored careers of interest;
• 100% of NYCPS graduates will have foundational skills for career readiness, computer science, and financial literacy, a strong plan, and early college credits/career credentials; and
• 100,000 NYCPS high schoolers will have in-depth experiences in career-connected pathways, including internships or apprenticeships, in high growth, high opportunity fields.
Within the context of these goals, the Executive Director of Strategy and Operations is a pivotal leadership role responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing the strategic and operational initiatives of the Office of Student Pathways. This position will drive the office's growth and efficiency by aligning strategic goals with operational processes, supporting cross-functional teams, and ensuring the effective implementation of the office's short- and long-term plans. The Executive Director will work closely with the executive leadership team to translate the Chancellor's vision and Office of Student Pathways mission into actionable strategies and operational excellence. The Executive Director will advise the Chief of Student Pathways on critical strategies to drive transformational student outcomes by identifying district strategies that are vetted through local, national, and international research and standards, and will oversee processes to support the office's priorities are aligned to these high impact strategies. The incumbent will oversee the office's funding streams and budgetary processes to ensure careful stewardship and sustainability of tax levy, grant, and philanthropic funding. Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Execution:
• Oversee research and recommendations for long-term strategic goals and objectives to drive the Chancellor's vision and Office of Student Pathways mission.
• Collaborate with the Chief of Student Pathways and the executive leadership team to create and execute strategic plans that align with office and NYCPS priorities.
• Monitor relevant local, regional, and national trends to identify opportunities and threats, adjusting strategies as necessary.
Operational Leadership:
• Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and alignment with strategic goals.
• Implement best practices for operational processes and performance metrics, driving continuous improvement.
• Oversee key philanthropic relationships and coordination with the Fund for Public Schools.
• Manage and optimize resource allocation, including budget oversight and financial performance tracking of tax levy, grant, and philanthropic funds.
Cross-functional Coordination:
• Facilitate communication and collaboration across Office of Student Pathways teams, other divisions, and key external partners to ensure cohesive implementation of strategic initiatives.
• Serve as a liaison between the executive team and operational departments, addressing challenges and fostering a collaborative environment.
Team Management:
• Lead and mentor a team of senior directors and staff, promoting professional development and a high-performance culture.
• Establish performance goals, conduct regular evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
Project Management:
• Oversee key projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timely delivery.
