Scientist – Center of Excellence in Pediatric Immuno-Oncology – Zhao Lab

A Scientist position is immediately available in the lab of Yunlong Zhao.

The Zhao Lab in the Center of Excellence in Immuno-Oncology (CEPIO) and Department of Immunology is seeking experienced candidates for a Scientist position to join our team. Our lab focuses on dissecting the molecular mechanisms of anti-tumor immunity with a particular emphasis on T cell signaling and co-receptor engagement. We aim to advance our understanding of these processes to identify novel immunotherapeutic strategies for treating cancers. 

Job Description  

The successful candidate will play a central role in driving multiple research projects, from designing and performing experiments to analyzing and presenting data. This role is crucial in supporting the lab’s multiple projects, focusing on the development of cellular and molecular methods and assisting the principal investigator in project management. You will be responsible for managing project timelines and assisting the PI in coordinating efforts across teams. The role requires outstanding organizational and communication skills to ensure smooth project execution and cross-lab collaboration. Key technical responsibilities include performing tissue culture, flow cytometry, protein expression, molecular cloning, and mouse model work, with a focus on immunology and anti-tumor research.

Job Responsibilities:
• Support multiple research projects by developing and implementing novel cellular and molecular methods.
• Assist the PI in project management and coordination, ensuring efficient communication between labs and collaborators.
• Design, troubleshoot, and optimize experimental protocols.
• Perform laboratory experiments, including flow cytometry, molecular cloning, protein expression, and murine models.
• Process and analyze data, preparing detailed reports and summaries.
• Contribute to drafting manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Train and mentor junior lab members in experimental techniques and protocols.
• Maintain lab operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and compliance with safety protocols.
• Foster a collaborative lab environment, working closely with other departments within the institution.

The Ideal Candidate will have:
• Strong background in cellular and molecular biology.
• Proficiency in lab techniques such as flow cytometry, molecular cloning, and protein expression.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills to manage multiple projects and coordinate with various teams.
• Experience in scientific writing and project management.
• Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills:
• Previous experience in cancer research and mouse models.
• Familiarity with in vivo murine models and cancer immunotherapy.
• Expertise in managing cross-functional collaborations.

Minimum Education and/or Training:
• Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required.

Minimum Experience:
• Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required
• Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree
• Three (3) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320 - $154,960 per year for the role of Scientist – Center of Excellence in Pediatric Immuno-Oncology – Zhao Lab.
