Job Description
Chemical Engineers support API projects through all the phases of late stage development, commercialization, product life cycle. This position will be responsible to ensure processes can be run safely, addressing scale-up issues and developing and implementing robust API process steps from the lab to a manufacturing environment. Once commercialized, the process engineer is responsible for continuous improvement activities, technical transfer to manufacturing sites, and resolution of technical manufacturing issues in a commercial setting. Effective cross functional interactions with quality and regulatory functions and on-site manufacturing personnel is key for successful job performance.
Purpose
Independently generate precise, reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Demonstrate experimental precision and strong data interpretation skills and should possess understanding of core discipline.
Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research and development activities and applies them to manufacturing process support.
• Productive in performing laboratory research or method development, with minimal supervision.
• Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
• Initiates new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program.
• Demonstrates proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
• Maintains a high level of productivity in the lab and/or pilot plant.
• Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.
• Conceives, designs, conducts research and development for major process or product design improvement.
• Develops processes and programs to optimize or achieve the plant efficiency, product quality, cost control, customer specification or product design changes.
• Experience and/or education with isolations of API and/or natural products isolations is a plus.
• Functions as a technical role model and resource/consultant to others. Anticipates, recognizes, and resolves problems. Investigates troubleshooting of product failures and recommends remediation direction.
• Applies basic computer skills (including word processing, spreadsheets, instrumentation related to corporate network systems and technical software).
• Applies technical writing skills to produce reports and documents. Utilizes numerous analytical instruments, trains others in their operation.
• Anticipates, recognizes, and resolves problems. Develops experiences towards becoming an expert in technical/functional areas.
Qualifications
• BS or equivalent education with typically 7 or more years of experience or MS or equivalent education with typically 5 or more years of experience.
• Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
• Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
• Ability to multitask and work within timelines.
• Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.
