The Austin College Department of Chemistry invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teaching & Research Fellowship in Organic Chemistry. Candidates must have PhD in hand before the position begins, start date is negotiable.
The department seeks to hire a recent Ph.D. graduate in Organic Chemistry, or a highly related field of chemistry, to start a three-year postdoctoral teaching and research position in the Fall of 2024 with the option to renew for a fourth year. Interest in pursuing a career at a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI) and some previous teaching experience in organic chemistry is desirable. The candidate will gain experience through teaching multiple sections of Organic Chemistry I & II and General Chemistry I & II laboratory sections, as well as in the setup, maintenance, breakdown, and safety documentation of all Organic Chemistry labs. Candidates may also have additional opportunities to teach lectures in organic chemistry, develop a course designed for non-majors, and advise student research projects through our summer research experience and/or academic year research programming after the first year. The candidate will gain highly relevant and desirable experience for a successful career at a PUI including teaching, lab management, lab safety, course development, and mentoring undergraduate researchers. The Fellow will receive mentoring from tenured colleagues, access to financial resources for scholarship, travel, and professional development; and other support that will help them a) better understand the nature of a career as a teacher-scholar at a primarily undergraduate institution, b) develop and strengthen their pedagogical skills and experience; and c) establish and enhance their research project(s). The Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in innovative teaching and scholarship within our excellent facilities and programs, including the college's Johnson Center for Teaching and Learning which promotes current topics and trends in teaching and pedagogy.
