About Us

The UNSW Centre for Sustainable Development Reform (CSDR) was established by the UNSW Faculty of Law and Justice in 2022 and aims to connect knowledge and people to make small steps towards big changes. It creates safe spaces for changemakers—from government, business, and wider society—to plan pragmatic action for a sustainable low-carbon future informed by knowledge and insights from across the world.

The CSDR builds on diverse research, education, and knowledge exchange partnerships aligned with global sustainable development commitments to drive forward the implementation of innovative and transformative workstreams. Currently active in over 20 countries, the CSDR works closely with decision-makers across government, international institutions, local communities, and the private and non-private sectors to create new approaches to decision-making as well as bold and intelligent reforms.

The opportunity

Our team is made up of multi-disciplinary focussed researchers and experts who are working on topics at the intersections of economics, politics, law, environmental management, data science and development. As the CSDR Post-Doctoral Fellow (Applied Economist) you will use your knowledge and expertise of economics, economic accounting, government finance and data to contribute towards the developmental impact of our partner countries. Through the CSDR and Global Ocean Accounts Partnership you will collaborate with governments and researchers in Australia and overseas to ensure your work impacts policy decision processes around the world, including building close relationships through in-country visits, workshops and fieldwork. You will draw on a diverse background to continue to build an individual research profile that has real-world impact and develop projects that are aligned with your research interests, the objectives of the CSDR and with partner countries.

The role of the CSDR Post-Doctoral Fellow reports to the CSDR Director and has no direct reports.

This position can be performed remotely and can be based in any country where the applicant has work rights.

Skills And Experience Required

You have a PhD in a related discipline of applied economics and/or relevant work experience across either public finance, analysis for policy making, national accounts, environmental economics accounts, national capital accounting or ecosystem evaluation. Experience working on Marine related issues is highly desirable.

You’ll be able to demonstrate your track record in high-quality impactful research, experience in the development and provision of policy advice to governments, public authorities or similar, as well as commitment to research excellence and keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.

You’ll also have high level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and create innovative solutions to complex problems and build effective relationships.
