Join an experienced and growing team in a key leadership role as Managing Editor of the Springfield Daily Citizen, an independent nonprofit digital news outlet serving Missouri's third-largest city. We're in the beautiful Ozarks region of Southwest Missouri, with access to outdoors, culture and other amenities.
The Managing Editor provides creative and passionate direction for the Daily Citizen website and related digital platforms, working with the CEO to provide overall planning and execution of daily news and “sense of place” coverage. The Managing Editor is responsible for working with the staff of eight full-time journalists, plus a cadre of experienced freelancers, to deliver high-quality digital content that grows our audience. The ME also assists as needed with the email newsletter, social media and other content.
The Daily Citizen has the city's largest, independent news staff and is on a strong growth path as it finishes its third year of publication.

Salary is commensurate with experience. The Daily Citizen offers a benefit package including company-subsidized health insurance and a 401k, as well as paid time off and the opportunity to work from home two days per week.

Education/Experience: Four-year degree in journalism or related field, or experience commensurate with four-year degree. Minimum of 8 years daily journalism or similar experience, supervisory experience and demonstrated editing, digital content and leadership skills.
