The Discovery Scientist I apply innovative approaches at a high scientific complexity level in the therapeutic drug discovery space within curious disease states. Each member of our team contributes to our mission of caring for life, researching health, and educating those who serve. Individual works within a highly specialized cross-functional research team to achieve time sensitive objectives & goals, utilizes state of the art equipment and takes part in the act of invention. Early career Discovery Chemists/Biologist collaborate with an experienced scientific mentor to design and execute experiments. Ability to learn advanced level of understanding discovery protocols, methodologies, data analysis, and presentations.

A caregiver in this position works days, from 9:00am—5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:
• Perform the required standard operating procedures of the Center with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with experienced scientific mentors to design and execute experiments.
• Assist with problem solving and finding workable solutions.
• Calculate, record, compile, and report data. Maintains Electronic Notebooks with minimal supervision.
• Engage in problem-solving, relative to daily lab activities.
• Maintain established laboratory inventories, ordering materials, as necessary.
• Demonstrate proficient knowledge and use of instruments and equipment. Maintains instrumentation and equipment for daily use per training and/or established SOPs.
• Contribute to publications, manuscripts, and patent applications.
• May assist in the training of technicians and trainees, including students.
• Interact with a multidisciplinary environment through team meetings with all levels of the Center and Cleveland Clinic collaborators who join discussions and contribute ideas.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience.
• Undergraduate thesis or research experience in an Organic Chemistry Lab with exposure to synthetic methodology OR synthesis OR research experience in a Biology OR Biochemistry lab OR other related experience with demonstrated leadership.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $22.85

Maximum hourly: $34.85

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. While the pay range is displayed as an hourly rate, Cleveland Clinic recruiters will clarify whether the compensation is hourly or salary. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education. This is not inclusive of the value of Cleveland Clinic's benefits package, which includes among other benefits, healthcare/dental/vision and retirement.
