Department Overview
The Transmission and Substation Operational Readiness department is responsible for overseeing the substation and transmission operational readiness, enhancing and monitoring substation asset telemetry, substation work methods and procedures, maintaining transmission and substation systems and tools, managing key operational objectives, and providing analytical support for Transmission and Substation Operations. The team works cross-functionally with the Transmission and Substation Maintenance and Construction departments, System Operations team, Asset Strategy and IT organizations. The team is responsible for coordinating across the enterprise on transmission and substation tools and systems.
Position Summary
The Director of Transmission and Substation Operational Readiness is responsible for guiding and managing the department’s strategic initiatives. The director’s primary goal is to ensure that all substation and transmission operations departments adhere to the highest levels of safety, reliability, and efficiency utilizing real-time monitoring from our data and systems and developing mitigation plans to prevent catastrophic events. This critical role ensures the efficient and reliable performance of our transmission and substation system. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the Electric System. The director will lead a team of managers, technical experts and business and system analyst groups to ensure the department meets its key operational performance and financial objectives in supporting our transmission and substation teams.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Vice President, Electric Transmission and Substation Operations.
Job Responsibilities
• Leads and mentors a team of several managers, providing guidance and support to ensure effective management of special initiatives, work methods and procedures and real-time substation and transmission asset monitoring
• Develops and implement strategic plans that align with PG&E’s overall mission and goals, focusing on enhancing substation and transmission operational readiness
• Oversee the creation and refinement of processes, work methods and procedures to ensure optimal safety and performance of our substation and transmission system
• Ensure the effective monitoring and analysis of substation telemetry and real-time operational data to identify and address potential issues proactively.
• Leads the development of business cases. Reviews and approves large business cases. Lead teams that define, review and approve business requirements for assigned business system(s). Performs high level prioritization of department projects.
• Leads the long-term strategy for complex technology needs for several systems or tools that have a significant impact on the successful operation. Anticipates, identifies, and fully meets the business needs through a deep understanding of current and future business environment.
• Manages a large department operational budget and consults on significant technology deployment budgets.
• Develops and maintains department performance metrics. Regularly presents business system and team performance metrics to the line of business senior leaders/executives. Addresses concerns and develops solutions.
