Research Officer

What you will do

As part of the Research and Committee Services branch, you will use your strong research and superior writing and editing skills to provide nonpartisan research and support to the Standing, Special and Legislative Policy Committees of the Assembly. You will analyze and interpret legislation, prepare written submission summaries, cross-jurisdictional comparisons and other briefings in addition to Committee reports.

You will work flexible hours and be available as necessary to support sessional/committee activities.

You are an individual who possesses the ability to swiftly navigate complex data and information, remain objective in your reporting, balance the demands of multiple projects and produce high-quality work under tight timelines.

You have exceptional communication skills that enable you to present your research and respond to inquiries in knowledgeable way; and your outstanding interpersonal skills allow you to interact effectively with team members and clients.

What you bring

Your background includes a Master’s Degree in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences or related field, foundational knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research tools and methodologies, and an understanding of public policy issues.

Previous work experience in a research role, including practical experience working with and interpreting legislation, is an asset. Familiarity through experience with statistical analysis, financial statements and analysis, and policy analysis is an asset.

You possess advanced computer application skills including the Microsoft Office Suite, research database technology, and Internet applications as well as outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
