Job Summary This position is responsible for providing research and administrative support to Dr. Daryl Wile, Clinical Investigator, Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management. The role includes assistance with documentation for grant applications, Research Ethics Board (REB) and operational approval for projects, scheduling weekly meetings for Dr. Wile and research students, maintaining project timelines and task assignments to research team members. Organizational Status The role pertains to support of Dr. Wile’s position as Clinical Investigator, Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management (CCDPM) at UBC Okanagan within the neurological disorders pillar. Dr. Wile’s research activities take place both at the UBC Okanagan Reichwald Health Sciences building and the Okanagan Movement Disorder Clinic at Walter Anderson Building adjacent to Kelowna General Hospital. The Research Coordinator will work at the Reichwald Health Sciences site. Work Performed Conducts literature searches, uses reference management software, writes standard content for the research newsletter and website pages. Contributes to the development, planning and execution of research projects, including research design and modification, ethics submissions, data management. Attends meetings to define research/lab strategies, goals, and scope of research projects. Prepares, composes, edits and proofreads documents such as grant applications, contracts, academic proposals, and scientific communications. Assists with submission of project related documentation, with the example of entering components from a research protocol into an online REB submission in the RISe system and identifying gaps or errors in the submissions Creates and maintains the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Records Management System for this position Schedules research related meetings and blocks time for research activities in collaboration with clinic staff at the Okanagan Movement Disorder clinic problem-solving on recruitment, enrollment, fidelity or equipment issues. Develops study advertisement and promotional material for study subject recruitment and conduct. Liaises with CCDPM Research Support Coordinator regarding recruitment and appointment tasks associated with research support staff and students Performs data entry, analyzes results (including preliminary analyses), and provides summary statistics in a timely and accurate manner. Assists in purchasing and invoicing related to research projects Performs other research tasks and provide research support to Dr. Daryl Wile and the research team as required. Consequence of Error/Judgement Confidentiality and discretion are required in handling any matters related to specific research participants and judgment is required to identify when information or questions may be appropriate to redirect to clinical staff or Dr. Wile. Financial transactions and submissions must be accurate to avoid loss of funding. Work often involves specific deadlines. Supervision Received The position is largely independent but includes review of actions by Dr. Wile. The Coordinator is expected to take initiative and problem solve, and follow through on tasks. Supervision Given May oversee the work of students and/or employees of a lower classification in order to ensure forward action on project timelines. Minimum Qualifications -Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
