Programme Information
PhD Stream
Students must pass the candidacy examination within 24 months from first entry.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 78 units for graduation, including a minimum of 12 units of lecture courses, 6 units of seminar courses and 60 units of thesis research courses. It normally takes three years to complete the programme.
Students entering without a research master’s degree are required to complete a minimum of 92 units for graduation, including a minimum of 12 units of lecture courses, 8 units of seminar courses and 72 units of thesis research courses. It normally takes four years to complete the programme.
For completion of the programme, students must submit a thesis based on their research for examination and pass a final oral examination.

Admission Requirements
In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should have majored in Chemistry or related fields. Applicants who graduated from overseas universities may be required to take Advanced Chemistry in the Graduate Record Examinations conducted by the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, N.J., U.S.A.

• To submit an initial application to RGC: By 12 noon, 1 December 2020 (Hong Kong time); and
• To submit full application to CUHK: By 5 pm, 1 December 2020 (Hong Kong time).
