UC Merced Extension anticipates hiring part-time instructor positions to teach the following courses in Chinese (Mandarin) for AY 2024-25. Course(s) being offered may include but not limited to:
• Elementary Chinese I (Mandarin)
• Elementary Chinese II (Mandarin)
Teaching responsibilities include instructional delivery for high school dual enrollment sections. Sections may include up to 35 high school juniors and/or seniors per section. Sections may be delivered in a taught face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online format. This appointment is within UC Merced Extension with a dotted line to the World Languages Program in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts (SSHA).
In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers.
Academic Year: 8/1/2024 – 7/31/2025
Fall Term: 8/1/2024 – 12/31/2024
Spring Term: 1/1/2025 – 5/31/2025
Summer Term: 6/1/2025 – 7/31/2025
UC Merced Extension anticipates hiring multiple part-time instructors for the courses listed above throughout the academic year based on the course sections scheduled and/or planned.
UC Merced graduate students, post-doccs, and other academic appointees affiliated with the UC Merced World Languages (Chinese) program will be given priority for initial sections.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications
Advanced degree in Chinese (Mandarin) language or Literature or related area and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching (required).
Preferred qualifications
Experience teaching at the high school level (preferred).
