This role is part of a team with shared accountability to bridge enterprise and merchandising strategies to deliver against the annual marketing strategy and plan. This role is a strategic architect of marketing plans in support of REI’s off-price business and marketing campaigns. Fluent in REI Member needs, this role grounds decisions in our unified Customer Plan and customer relevance. They reflect this through customer-centered value strategies, marketing campaigns, audience communication strategies, and the development of go-to-market plans. Accountable for leading the organization against defined objectives and KPIs, this role is at the center of driving differentiation, growth, and a specialty retail presence. Core partners include Merchandising, Brand Strategy, Creative, Marketing Channels, Digital, Retail, Local Engagement, Partnerships, and Employee Communication Teams. This role has an expansive influence across the organization to bring forward compelling customer experiences and drive desired outcomes. This role is marketing’s center of passion, business acumen, retail trends, and marketing expertise for off-price.
Areas of Accountability
• Develop annual marketing strategy for off-price campaigns, inclusive of marketing objectives, customer insights, activity business arc, outdoor cultural moments, and prioritized messaging timeframes
• Develop off-price marketing campaign strategies that deliver against the annual marketing strategy and plan; inclusive of campaign ecosystem and audience journeys
• Collaborates with Marketing Planning and Customer Insights team to develop measurable campaign KPIs and supports recapping as needed
• Advocates for what matters to our members through fluency in Customer Plan and building customer-centered marketing campaigns from strategy through execution
• Partners closely with Merchandising to pull through compelling product categories, products, and brands through annual marketing plans and campaigns
• Ensures that the customer experience and supporting content, assets, and programs deliver on marketing strategy and objectives
• Leads campaign development across the organization to deliver a compelling customer experience that will drive desired outcomes and KPIs
• Maximizes the potential of campaigns through expanded consideration of how to reach customers through paid, owned, earned, employee, and partner communication channels
• Assures REI branding and product attributes are appropriately represented in campaigns
• Understands current business performance and opportunities to evolve in-market and future campaign strategies and execution
• Student of retail trends, outdoor culture, consumer behaviors, and outdoor activities to influence marketing innovation and outdoor specialty retail expression.
Requirements
• 7+ years of marketing strategy or campaign management experience; focus on off-price sales/campaigns, clearance, or outlet business
• BA in Business, Marketing, or Communications preferred
• Experience building audience journeys, campaign ecosystems, and engagement frameworks
• Proven track record developing integrated off-price marketing strategies and go-to-market plans that meet or exceed business goals.
• Experience influencing and/or creating off-price offer constructs to maximize marketing potential and drive business outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to manage work in a deadline and process-driven environment
• Demonstrated ability to assess important market requirements and opportunities and identify competitive opportunities.
• Experience working with retailers carrying a broad portfolio of products and brands
• Experience marketing multiple types of offers
• Experience and success in productively managing partners and relationships to develop marketing strategies and campaigns
