Job Summary
The Office of Undergraduate Studies is seeking a highly motivated and creative student interested in social media or content production careers to work up to 20 hours/week as a creative content intern. Reporting to the Digitial Media Manager for the Office of Undergraduate Studies, the creative content intern plays an integral role in content strategy, creation, and execution for the office’s website and social media channels (Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube).
This is a semester length internship with the potential to extend. Internship can be taken for credit upon request, deadlines vary.
Responsibilities
• Capture high-quality video and photo content for various projects.
• Help plan and set up shoots, including lighting and audio equipment.
• Edit raw footage into polished, engaging videos.
• Conduct interviews and capture b-roll footage as needed.
• Ensure posts go out as planned on designated platforms with accuracy.
• Maintain brand quality and alignment across all social media platforms and post content promptly in accordance with scheduled deadlines.
• This position will require attendance and documentation of events related to various units within Undergraduate Studies and may include occasional weekend and evening work.
• Engage in brainstorming and team meetings to generate ideas for promoting Undergraduate Studies events, initiatives, and activities via social media.
• Independently create content (with guidance and support from a supervisor) and publish social posts using a scheduling tool, as well as monitoring and encouraging engagement with posts once live.
• Track analytics and review past efforts to determine effectiveness and guide future strategies.
• Other clerical and office duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferences
• Currently an undergraduate student with more than two semesters before graduation.
• An interest in social media marketing and video production.
• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Film, or a related field. Other desired skills include:
• Background with Adobe Creative Suite (Mainly Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Lightroom — After Effects, InDesign, and Illustrator are a plus.)
• Understanding of mirrorless camera basics including ISO , Aperture, and Shutter Speed.
• Familiarity with color grading or willingness to learn.
• Ability to take quality photos and videos for websites and social media.
• Ability to edit video and photos.
• Understanding of current social media best practices and guidelines.
• Strong professional writing skills.
• Willingness to appear in front of the camera and professionally represent the University of Utah.
• Demonstrate a creative approach to content development.
• Willingness to uphold and follow university brand guidelines.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects in collaboration with team members.
• Ability to work both in an office at the University of Utah and remotely.
