Biology Laboratory Manager

Knox College seeks to fill a 12-month full time, salaried position as Biology Laboratory Manager. The Biology Lab Manager will be to provide general support for labs and research in the biological sciences in the Umbeck Science and Math Center. The Biology Laboratory Manager works closely with faculty and other staff to ensure that teaching labs and research projects have access to the required materials, Interacting with vendors and technicians to purchase and maintain equipment. This position reports to the Provost and Dean of the College under the direct supervision of the chair of the Department of Biology.

Among the Lab Manager's regular duties will be responsibilities to:
• Provide materials and equipment for teaching labs and faculty/student research.
• Purchase and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Track expenses and spending for multiple departmental budgets and faculty/student grants.
• Oversee maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
• Clean and organize materials and lab spaces when not in use.
• Coordinate lab safety procedures and disposal of chemical/biological waste.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues. Flexibility and strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze and resolve issues are important.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
• Commitment to the success of students of diverse backgrounds and experiences and to the mission of a diverse educational community.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues in the Science-Math Center and across the College.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing, and administrative skills to interact with students, alumni, staff, faculty, prospective families, and any guests.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency and knowledge of budgeting software/spreadsheets, and/or the ability to learn new technologies quickly and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
• Purchasing experience
• Work in educational settings
• Experience in a lab setting
• Knowledge of OSHA's Lab Safety Standards
