Producer (Live Video Planning Producer)

Associated Press

The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.

The Associated Press, the world's largest supplier of live video news, seeks applications for the position of Live Video Planning Producer, to book and guide the live coverage of scheduled and breaking news events across AP’s live video channels for delivery to international broadcast and digital customers.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will work with the Live Video Editors – along with field staff and content partners around the world – to book and schedule live news content that our customers can reasonably expect, as well as content that broadens our report, across all of AP’s live channels. Based in London, you will report to the News Editor for Live Video.

We’re looking for someone who will:
• Work with colleagues and content partners around the world to ensure that the right stories are prioritized, and that our news report is competitive and comprehensive.
• Pursue innovative and inclusive coverage while maintaining AP’s editorial standards for integrity and objectivity.
• Assess intellectual property rights and journalist safety.
• Help ensure that our live plans are communicated in real time to customers in a proactive way, and that those communications are accurate, transparent and up to date.
• Help ensure that customers’ questions are answered in a timely and clear manner through message boards and other channels.

The Live Video Planner role is evolving as AP continues to develop its product delivery and production processes, and the responsibilities of this role will develop accordingly. You must have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation. The role will be covered by AP’s hybrid model, which allows for some home working and some shifts in the office, as schedules dictate and news requires.

Preferred Qualifications:
• At least three years of full-time editorial and operational experience with live news content, or a solid track record in video journalism involving breaking news coverage.
• An understanding of live video newsgathering technology.
• A good knowledge of world affairs and of the requirements of AP’s live video clients.
• The ability to work swiftly and accurately under tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues in other positions, including those on the video, text and photos production desks.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Authorization to work in the U.K. will be mandatory.
• Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.

We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use a cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.

The closing date for applications is 11:59 PM ET on 4 September 2024.
