Senior SQL DBA

BITCO Insurance has a critical need for a Senior SQL DBA to:

- Support both legacy and modern Azure-based databases

- Ensure the availability, performance, and security of the company's database infrastructure

- Implement and maintain database backup and recovery procedures

- Optimize database queries and indexes to improve performance

- Collaborate with the IT team to plan and execute database migrations and upgrades

- Monitor database usage and capacity, and proactively address any issues

- Provide technical support and guidance to application developers and end-users

- Stay up-to-date with the latest database technologies and best practices

This Sr SQL DBA needs to be someone who has in depth SQL knowledge in all aspects on SQL. They need to understand the why behind areas and understanding of what to do if there are issues. This person needs to have the ability to do performance tuning as well as query optimization.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with relational database management systems

Understanding of database design/architecture

Understanding of business logic

Knowledge of database administration tasks

Ability to understand large data models

Ability to debug and troubleshoot problems

Experience with different database tools to manage the daily tasks more efficiently

Ability to work individually and as part of a team

Communication and diplomacy skills

Job Summary:

The Senior SQL Database Administrator is responsible for building database systems that are high-quality, scalable and high performance to meet the demands of our rapidly growing and ever-changing environment. This team member uses repeatable practices to ensure data availability, integrity and security, and they interact with developers, business analysts, network and SAN engineers, and other teams involved in project planning, development and testing.

Responsibilities

Install and configure database servers

Design databases

Handle database maintenance tasks (backups/restores, updating statistics and rebuilding indexes)

Monitor database system resources and performance

Handle performance tuning

Perform database development tasks and batch scripting

Ensure client satisfaction with data collection, presentation and other efforts

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Experience with Mainframe as BITCO currently has 1/2 of their major systems running on the Mainframe. Cloud experience, as BITCO will be moving to Azure, but has not begun their cloud migration efforts. Insurance / Financial Services domain experience, specifically Property and Casualty (P&C) Claims
