Description

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin Fall of academic year 2025-26. We seek to hire an applied linguist with a specialization in second language learning, teacher training and language program development, language learning and technology, language assessment, heritage language learning, or a related field. The College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin is home to multiple language and linguistics initiatives including the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning, the Linguistics Research Center, and the Texas Language Center. We seek to hire a scholar who is prepared to engage with these and other initiatives. We also seek scholars whose research focus complements existing departmental strengths in phonetics and phonology, bilingualism, and language contact, with a commitment to open scholarship practices. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to the department, college, and university.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Spanish, Linguistics, or a related field. We prefer applicants who have a strong record of curricular and programmatic contributions and graduate student mentorship, and a record of applying for and obtaining external grants and fellowships.

Applicants must upload a letter of interest, CV, three letters of recommendation, a research statement, a teaching statement, and two representative publications. The committee will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability.
