The Position
The Learning & Skill Development (L&SD) organization plays a key role in installing a digital culture and mindset across the Commercial and Medical Group (CMG) as well as providing every CMG customer - be it employee, manager, healthcare provider, and patient - with the information and skills that they need next, when they need it, where they need it. L&SD is pioneering advances in skills management, digital learning, experiential learning, and workflow learning.
The Opportunity
The Director of Data Insights & Measurement is a key member of the L&SD leadership team and leads a team of data scientists and analysts to ensure that Genentech business units have the insights to anticipate and make informed decisions about the skills and learning investments that are needed next to accelerate their learning and development. This team is responsible for turning these insights into a skill forecast that allows the rest of the L&SD organization to plan and execute on skill development for each GNE employee over the next 12-15 months.
• Managing and leading a team of data analysts and scientists to ensure the L&SD insights and measurement team is operating efficiently and effectively.
• Developing and implementing machine learning models to support LSD priorities and various business functions, such as customer engagement for both field commercial and field medical, marketing, finance and contracting.
• Collaborating with key business partners in CMG, IT, P&C and others to identify areas where AI and machine learning can improve business and learning outcomes, and working with the team to develop and implement solutions for L&SD/CMG
• Overseeing the data pipeline and ensuring data quality and integrity, and managing data governance policies.
• Conducting analysis and using machine learning algorithms to provide insights and recommendations for key performance metrics, such as training impact, skills adoption and learning outcomes.
• Ensure that data coming from the Learning Business Partner teams is converted into insights, and then used to continuously prioritize the design and development roadmap for the Learning Products team. This leader will also work with the Learning Technology team to ensure that data coming from the Learning Systems is integrated with data sources from People (P&C data lake) and the Business (Oasis data lake) to produce insights regarding high versus low-value learning actions and business outcomes
• Work with the Learning Technology team to implement a Forecast Engine with the Learning Systems, filter data down to provide each employee with a GNE-level annual skill plan that can then be revised by the manager and employee for local and personal development interests
• Partner with the L&SD Program Management Office (PMO) and OPS team to ensure that the data science roadmap and efforts aligns with and supports the Annual Skill Forecast
• Develop and create an inspiring culture and great place to work by leading, acting and living our Operating Principles in all aspects of work, inclusive of employee engagement and promoting a culture of inclusivity and belonging
• Responsible for resource management, recruiting, hiring, performance of a team, and onboarding qualified individuals
• Provide day to day coaching, development conversations, professional development plans, performance reviews, and succession planning for direct reports
• Establishes and clearly communicates team priorities, goals and expectations
• Foster collaboration across multiple functions within L&SD, CMG, and Genentech to drive alignment and ensure effective implementation of learning solutions
Who You Are
• You have a minimum of a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, data science, or a related field.
• 7-10 years of experience working in data science and/or data analytics solving complex business problems
• Experience designing and developing machine learning models with a strong understanding of various machine learning techniques and algorithms.
• Experience leading a team of data scientists and analysts to deliver business solutions, including setting priorities, leading results, and providing guidance and mentorship.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and Java, and familiarity with relevant libraries and frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
• Strong analytical and data analysis skills, including experience in data visualization, statistical analysis, and data manipulation using tools such as SQL and Tableau.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms to partners with varying levels of technical expertise.
• Strong business acumen and ability to understand the impact of AI and machine learning solutions on business and learning outcomes, including skill learning, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.
