Investment Analyst – Consumer Sector Kaufmann Team – NYC
Federated Hermes, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investment managers with over $782.7 billion assets under management, has an exciting opportunity for an equity analyst to join our Kaufmann growth team working on three funds which invest across the market capitalization spectrum. The ideal candidate will have some investment experience within the consumer sector, a passion for both the financial and brand/marketing sides of the consumer space and a collaborative attitude combined with ability to work independently. The position will report to a Senior Portfolio Manager who specializes in the consumer space for the team and has more than 30 years of investment experience.
MAJOR DUTIES:
• Initiate, perform and maintain high-level fundamental analysis of publicly traded companies and potential IPOs to assist the portfolio managers in assessing suitability of stocks for inclusion in the portfolios. The investment analysis will include financial statement analysis, financial modeling, comparable company analysis and relative value work.
• Utilize analysis to formulate investment ideas and clearly articulate it to the portfolio managers for inclusion in the portfolio. This includes generating and diligently communicating value-added buy, sell and hold recommendations on individual securities, potential IPOs and other relevant information to the portfolio.
• Diligently seek equity research and remain apprised of company and industry trends. Sources include, but are not limited to, industry publications, public documents, annual reports, trade journals, interviews with management teams, working with sell-side research analysts, reviewing financial statements and earnings transcripts and tracking brand presence and competitive activity on social media. Channel checks, attendance at industry trade shows, networking with industry competitors, clients and suppliers should be utilized.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all research performed
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree required; accounting, finance and/or economics preferred; MBA and/or CFA or working toward CFA helpful
• Minimum 2 years of experience in investment analysis required; experience covering retail/consumer and related sectors preferred
• Solid accounting, analytical and research skills
• Demonstrated understanding of investment analysis, financial statement analysis, valuation and financial markets required
• Excellent Excel, research knowledge, analysis and decision-making skills required
• Ability to track brand presence and competitive activity across social media platforms that have become instrumental to brand marketing
• Excellent communication skills
The annual base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $150,000. In determining salary multiple factors will be taken into consideration such as primary work location, experience, education and skill set.
